A Community Choir in the Heart of Lindisfarne

Why sing in a choir?

The physiological benefits of singing, and music more generally, have long been explored. Music making exercises the brain as well as the body, but singing is particularly beneficial for improving breathing, posture and muscle tension.

Music has been used in different cultures throughout history in many healing rituals, and is already used as a therapy in our own culture (for the relief of mental illness, breathing conditions and language impairment, for example). Everyone can sing – however much we might protest – meaning it is one of the most accessible forms of music making, too. Song is a powerful therapy indeed. Read more on the benefits of singing.

We are a community choir of predominantly retired singers of varied musical experience. We enjoy each other’s company, and like to keep our rehearsals fun and social.

We sing a variety of repertoire, in 3 or 4 part harmony, and perform two major concerts each year.

The choir holds regular weekly Thursday evening rehearsals from 7.00 p.m. 9.00 p.m. at the Lindisfarne Activities Centre, 37A Lincoln Street, Lindisfarne, Tasmania.

Vale John Malcolm Thompson

Malcolm Thompson, a Life Member of The Lindisfarne Riverside Arts Club, passed away this week (September 2025).

Malcolm had been a club member since the late 1970’s and had served the club in many roles over the years including President, Treasurer and Drama Director.  He had a fine tenor voice and was a soloist on many occasions.  He was also heavily involved in the drama side of the club with many appearances in the 3-act plays that the club was known for in its early days.  More recently he provided light entertainment in the form of comical skits in our ‘Melody & Mirth’ concert programs.  He retired from the choir in 2018, but always supported us by attending concerts and social events.
